The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations, Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman, along with committee members, praised the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for its commitment to maintaining safety standards in the Nigerian maritime sector.
The commendation came during the committee’s oversight visit to NIMASA’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos. Hon. Sulaiman expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure and operations at the agency’s headquarters.
“We are impressed with the level of commitment and the infrastructure we have seen here today. NIMASA is indeed upholding the highest safety standards in the maritime sector,” stated Hon. Sulaiman.
He further assured that the committee is ready to collaborate with NIMASA to ensure that the agency’s mandates, including safety, are effectively realized.
The committee, which oversees health and safety standards, chose NIMASA as its first port of call for its oversight activities. The visit marks the beginning of its efforts to ensure organizational health and safety are maintained while implementing mechanisms for an environmentally friendly and conducive working environment.
“Our assignment is to ensure that safety and health standards are upheld across all organizations. We are committed to supporting NIMASA in achieving its goals and mandates,” added Hon. Sulaiman.
The visit underscores the importance of safety and regulatory compliance in the Nigerian maritime industry, with NIMASA playing a pivotal role in safeguarding the sector.
