Honorable Sani Jaji, the Federal legislator representing Birnin Magaji/Kaura Namoda Federal Constituency, is poised to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). This development follows a crucial closed-door meeting between Jaji and NNPP’s national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at Kwankwaso’s residence.

Sources close to Jaji revealed that during the meeting, Jaji expressed his disillusionment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He claimed to have invested over five billion Naira in support of Tinubu’s presidential campaign, under the agreement that he would be appointed Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. Jaji accused the president of betrayal and expressed his intention to retaliate.

Jaji reportedly conveyed his frustration about the broken agreement, stating, “I could not imagine how I suffered with the huge resources I deployed in the campaign to make the president victorious in the election, only to be betrayed by the president. I will do everything to retaliate since I have been betrayed by the president. I am ready to join forces with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other opposition politicians of Northern extractions to defeat the president and the APC in the 2027 presidential election.”

Kwankwaso reportedly welcomed Jaji’s decision and expressed sympathy for his financial sacrifices during the campaign. He assured Jaji of NNPP’s support and collaboration.

Jaji cited the APC’s perceived lack of focus, tribalism, and nepotism as reasons for his departure. He emphasized his belief in NNPP’s reliability, internal democracy, and leadership, and his commitment to working with northern leaders to change the country’s leadership in the upcoming elections.

During the meeting, a phone call was made to Ahmed Sani Yeriman Bakura, who, while on a visit to Canada, confirmed his support for the arrangement and expressed his intention to meet with Kwankwaso upon his return.
