The Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, OON (JP), has led a delegation of lawmakers on an oversight visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and its affiliated agencies. The visit was part of an effort to evaluate the performance of the ministry and assess its budget utilization ahead of the 2025 budget preparation.

Hon. Adewale, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 01, and his committee members met with key officials including the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi; General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Adebisi Adelabu; and the General Manager of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Abimbola Akinajo.

During the visit, Hon. Adewale praised the progress made by the ministry under the leadership of Commissioner Osiyemi. The committee’s objective was to review how well the ministry had utilized its 2024 budget allocation and identify areas of improvement ahead of the new fiscal year. Commissioner Osiyemi revealed that over 85% of the ministry’s 2024 budget had been actualized.

As part of the oversight function, Hon. Adewale requested that the Ministry of Transportation submit progress reports on executed and pending projects. He also announced plans for an on-site inspection of ongoing projects to ensure alignment with the state’s development goals.

At LASPA, the lawmakers were warmly received by the General Manager, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, who briefed them on the agency’s initiatives. Mrs. Adelabu solicited continued support from the committee to enhance parking safety and achieve a sustainable parking system across the state. In response, Hon. Adewale requested the submission of LASPA’s progress reports for further review and future site visits.

The delegation also visited LAMATA’s office, where General Manager Abimbola Akinajo provided an update on the agency’s achievements in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda. She emphasized the need for sustained investment in transport infrastructure and recommended that fines from violations of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor regulations be reinvested in maintaining transport facilities, particularly bus stops.

Hon. Adewale commended Mrs. Akinajo’s leadership and efforts in improving the state’s transport sector. He requested that LAMATA submit its progress reports to the committee, underscoring the importance of continued legislative oversight to ensure that transport projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

The visit concluded with mutual expressions of commitment to fostering better collaboration between the lawmakers and the agencies to improve transportation systems across Lagos State.
