A lone gunman has been apprehended by Surveillance Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command at a popular hotel in Awka on the 20th of July, 2023.

The operatives noticed the man acting suspiciously around the hotel premises, prompting them to approach and search him.

During the search, they discovered an English-made pistol along with three rounds of live ammunition in his possession.

Identifying himself as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka, the suspect was immediately disarmed, arrested, and taken into custody.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has instructed the State CID Awka to lead the investigation.

The primary focus of the inquiry will be to determine the source of the weapon and the gunman’s motives for carrying it into the hotel.

Once the investigation concludes, the suspect will face charges in court.
