GTCO Fashion Weekend Spotlights Models’ Inspiring Journeys, Industry Insights For Aspiring Creatives

The GTCO Fashion Weekend, a premier event supported by GTBank, showcased an array of top designers and creative talents, bringing together both local and international models to the spotlight. Among them were accomplished Nigerian models, including Okoh Naomi, Fathia, and Chinwe Otika, who shared their inspiring journeys and valuable advice on navigating the competitive modeling industry.

Okoh Naomi, who returned for her second consecutive year with Black Attitude Models Nigeria, reflected on her journey from a casual interest in modeling to making it a career. “I started modeling around 2020, but I wasn’t serious about it. Last year, I committed fully, and now I’m doing well,” Naomi shared. She also praised GTBank’s commitment to fair pay for models, something she feels is crucial in an industry where compensation can be inconsistent. “In Nigeria, modeling doesn’t always pay well, but GTB pays their models well,” she added. Naomi, a final-year Industrial Chemistry student at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, encouraged aspiring models to keep pushing forward, saying, “Don’t sit at home, push yourself and move forward.”

Fathia, a model with four years of experience, acknowledged the fierce competition in the industry. “There are thousands of models, so you don’t always get the job, but when you do, it’s rewarding,” she explained. Reflecting on the challenges she faces, Fathia emphasized the importance of self-discipline. “You need to be fit, look good, and maintain healthy skin,” she said. This year marked her third appearance at the Disco Fashion Weekend, where she advised newcomers, saying, “Buckle your shoes and grab opportunities.”

Chinwe Otika, a seasoned model with over a decade of experience, called the GTCO Fashion Weekend “magical” for its fusion of international and Nigerian talents. “The turnout is huge, and for GTCO, you don’t expect anything less,” she remarked. Starting her modeling career at 16, Chinwe, now 27, sees the craft as a lifelong passion. “Modeling is a journey for me, and I’ve always been in love with it. It’s not just about the runway, it’s a part of who I am.”

The GTCO Fashion Weekend not only celebrated fashion but also spotlighted the resilience and determination of models like Naomi, Fathia, and Chinwe, who serve as inspirations for those looking to make their mark in the industry. The event continues to foster an inclusive environment where creativity and hard work meet opportunity.
