The GTCO Fashion Weekend made waves with its Disco Fashion 2024 showcase, featuring an eclectic mix of local and international models who brought diverse perspectives and unique experiences to the runway. Supported by GTBank, this year’s event highlighted not only the creativity of the designers but also the passion, challenges, and journeys of the models who brought their collections to life.

One of the standout models was Davou Pwajok, a seasoned professional with six years of experience, making his fourth appearance at the GTBank runway. Reflecting on his career, Pwajok shared, “It’s been years of work, and I’ve always auditioned for GTBank. Modeling is very profitable depending on how you run your brand.” As a fashion stylist as well, he emphasized, “The more you model, the better you get,” underscoring the growth and opportunities in the industry.

Favour Sunday, who expressed her excitement about being part of the event, said, “Today’s event was massive and wonderful. I hope to be back next year.” Her enthusiasm captured the energy of the event, which was filled with excitement and promise.

Aishat Mustapha, in her second year with GTCO Fashion Weekend, shared her insights into the challenges faced by emerging models. With three years of experience, Mustapha reflected, “The road is rough, but as you go, it gets better.” Offering advice to aspiring models, she encouraged, “Keep trying; it will click someday.”

For Ruby, a recent graduate in textile and fashion design from the University of Calabar, the event was a vibrant and inspiring experience. She expressed, “Today has been so vibrant, and everyone looks amazing,” while also acknowledging the struggles of fashion entrepreneurship in Nigeria, particularly highlighting the issue of “funding” as a significant challenge for aspiring designers.

First-time GTCO model Jackson, with four years of experience, shared his excitement about participating in the showcase. “Today was fun; I enjoyed looking as stylish as everyone else,” he said. Like many models, he pointed out the difficulty of casting in the competitive industry.

The Disco Fashion 2024 showcase at GTCO Fashion Weekend was not only a celebration of the creative brilliance of the designers but also a powerful reminder of the resilience, determination, and passion of the models who continue to push the boundaries of fashion. This year’s event was a testament to the growing diversity and talent in the fashion industry, providing an inspiring platform for both established and emerging talents to shine.
