Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum met with the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on Friday, August 16, 2024, to discuss strengthening collaboration on border security and trade facilitation.
During the visit, Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support provided by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in managing the complex challenges faced by Borno State, which shares borders with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. He highlighted the strategic significance of Borno’s location and the critical need for enhanced cooperation to ensure both the security and economic prosperity of the region.
“We are grateful for the dedication and assistance the Nigeria Customs Service has provided to Borno State,” Governor Zulum stated. “Our borders require robust management, and we are keen to strengthen our relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure the safety and prosperity of our state.”
In response, Comptroller General Adeniyi expressed his appreciation for the governor’s visit and reaffirmed the Customs Service’s commitment to supporting Borno State. “We appreciate the support we have received from Borno State in carrying out our core responsibilities. The Customs Service is committed to enhancing and facilitating legitimate trade while ensuring the protection of our borders,” he said.
The meeting concluded with Governor Zulum extending an invitation to CGC Adeniyi to visit Borno State, underlining the importance of building on the existing partnership between the state and the Nigeria Customs Service to address ongoing challenges and capitalize on opportunities for mutual benefit.
