Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Theophilus Egbodion as the pioneer chairman of the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

The appointment was confirmed in an official letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, stating that Egbodion’s tenure takes effect from December 2024.

In response, Egbodion described the appointment as a call to service, expressing gratitude to the governor for the opportunity. He pledged to serve with compassion and prioritize the needs of persons living with disabilities in the state.

Born in 1978 in Uromi, Edo State, Theophilus Egbodion has consistently demonstrated excellence despite being physically challenged. He attended Federal Government College, Warri, and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in 2006.

His public service career began with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jos, Plateau State, in 2007, after which he was appointed Special Adviser to the Chairman of Esan North East Local Government.

In 2011, he joined Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) as a Data Processing Officer, where he steadily rose through the ranks due to his diligence and expertise.

Egbodion’s appointment follows the enactment of the Edo State Persons Living with Disability Law in July 2022, which aims to protect the rights and integrate persons with disabilities into society.

His leadership is expected to drive inclusive policies and enhance the welfare of persons with disabilities in Edo State.
