The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Umar Mijinyawa, has inaugurated a series of welfare and accommodation projects at the 243 Recce Battalion in Ibereko Barracks, Badagry, Lagos State. The projects aim to enhance the operational efficiency and living conditions of troops, while also improving recreational facilities for soldiers and their families.
Among the commissioned projects were a newly built residence for the Commanding Officer, new quarters for Corporals and Below soldiers, a remodeled Senior Non-commissioned Officers’ Quarters, a recreational facility at the soldiers’ club, a new mess hall at the Warrant Officers and Sergeants’ Mess, and a dedicated cemetery for fallen soldiers.
Speaking during the commissioning, Major General Mijinyawa emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of soldiers and their families, a priority outlined in the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede. He noted that 81 Division has been a major beneficiary of this welfare-focused approach, which seeks to boost troop morale and operational readiness.
The GOC expressed his appreciation to the COAS for his consistent dedication to improving the welfare of personnel and their families. He encouraged the troops to remain steadfast and committed in the discharge of their duties.
Major General Mijinyawa also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of other security agencies in Badagry, commending their synergy with the Nigerian Army in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the area. He called for sustained efforts to strengthen this partnership.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by representatives of the Akran of Badagry, heads of other security agencies, and captains of industry in the area. The highlight of the event was the symbolic handing over of keys to the beneficiaries of the new accommodations.
Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 81 Division, noted that the projects reflect the Nigerian Army’s unwavering focus on soldier welfare and its impact on operational efficiency.
