    GOALKEEPERS 2022: Chiemelie Ezeobi Of THISDAY Newspapers Partners Bill & Melinda Gates

    The Group Features Editor of THISDAY NEWSPAPER, Chiemelie Ezeobi has been nominated as a media partner to the Bill and Melinda Gates’ Foundation Goalkeepers for 2022.

    In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDG) to achieve a better world by 2030.

    Started by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Goalkeepers is a catalyst for action toward these goals, bringing together leaders from around the world to make progress toward ending poverty and fighting inequality.

    Goalkeepers is dedicated to accelerating progress toward the Global Goals: using powerful stories, data, and partnerships to highlight progress achieved, and bring together a diverse range of leaders to address the world’s major challenges.

    This year, Ezeobi, an innovative journalist and the Group Features Editor of THISDAY NEWSPAPER was nominated as a media partner to the Goalkeepers for 2022.

    It was gathered that in her role, she is expected to amplify the stories of the Goalkeepers all targeted at ensuring the actualisation of the SDGs.

    The event has given her the opportunity to meet world leaders in New York.

    With over a decade in Defence and Crime journalism, Ezeobi has proven her mettle in the profession.

    A humanitarian with passion for excellence, the multi-award winning news Queen was among the few Nigerian journalists nominated for United States Fellowship on International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) on Countering Insurgency: Media Messaging and Strategies.

    According to hybridnewsng.com findings, she was also sponsored by the UK Government to cover the Climate of Parties (COP26) on United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCC).

    Among the plethora of awards she has garnered over the years, she is a Silent Hero in Developmental Journalism, an Outstanding Journalist for the 2022 National Media Community Awards, and
    in 2021, she bagged the Defence Headquarters award for Outstanding Performance in the Indepth Coverage of Conflict/Insurgency in Nigeria.

    Also in 2021, she was first runner up in the GYB Annual Award for Crime and Political Editors and received N1.25million as prize money.

    In October 2021, she got an honourary mention in the 20 Most Powerful Women in Journalism by the Women in Journalism group.

    Ezeobi is on Security Watch Africa International Board of Jury and in 2022, she was appointed to the national working committee of the Centre for Black African Arts and Culture Re-enactment of FESTAC’77.
