As part of its ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and financial inclusion, Unity Bank Plc marked the 2025 Global Money Week by facilitating financial literacy training in 13 secondary schools across the country.

This year’s campaign, themed “Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow,” focused on helping young Nigerians develop sound financial judgment and critical thinking skills, especially in a digital age heavily influenced by social media and impulsive spending trends.

The highlight of the initiative was an engaging session held at Boys Model Secondary School, Owerri, Imo State, led by Unity Bank’s Zonal Head for South South/South East, Mr. William Odigie, who represented the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Kolawole. Speaking to students, Mr. Kolawole emphasized the value of early exposure to smart money habits.

“The habits you form now around saving, spending, and investing will shape your financial future. It’s not about how much you have, but how wisely you manage it,” he stated.

Across all 13 participating schools, Unity Bank facilitators conducted interactive sessions featuring practical money management exercises, engaging discussions, and quizzes. Outstanding students were recognized and rewarded with branded gift items, reinforcing the core lessons of financial discipline, planning, and responsibility.

The outreach is part of Unity Bank’s broader youth engagement strategy, which recently saw the launch of GenFi, a youth-focused digital banking application. GenFi is designed to instill financial literacy through gamified learning, goal-setting features, and parental guidance tools, encouraging responsible financial behaviour from an early age.

Global Money Week is an annual global awareness campaign promoted in Nigeria by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee and Junior Achievement Nigeria. The initiative aims to equip young people with essential financial knowledge to foster long-term economic empowerment.

Unity Bank’s active participation in this year’s event once again highlights its role as a key advocate for youth financial education, strengthening its position as a catalyst for building a financially informed and independent generation.
