The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is pleased to announce the amicable resolution of the interconnect debt dispute between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. (MTN) and Globacom Limited (Globacom).
In light of this resolution, the previously granted disconnection approval to MTN for Globacom has been officially withdrawn. The NCC, having initially issued a Public Notice, took proactive steps to mediate between the parties and facilitate a reconciliation process to avoid any potential disruptions to subscribers.
The Commission underscores the importance of strict adherence to the terms and conditions outlined in interconnection agreements for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and other licensees within the telecommunications industry. The resolution of this dispute reaffirms the NCC’s commitment to fostering a stable and compliant telecommunications ecosystem in Nigeria.
To further address and prevent future instances of interconnect indebtedness within the industry, the NCC will be actively requesting relevant records and regular updates from MNOs. A transparent approach towards industry indebtedness will be adopted to ensure a proactive and accountable telecommunications landscape.
This press statement serves as a reminder of the Commission’s dedication to maintaining a robust and harmonious telecommunications environment, promoting the interests of both operators and subscribers.
