Barrister Hassan Bello, the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), has been honored with the prestigious Order of the Niger (OON) National Honours Award.
The recognition was bestowed upon him in Abuja on June 1, 2023, as he had been nominated for the award during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The award presented to Bello signifies the acknowledgment of his remarkable contributions to the maritime sector throughout his eight-year tenure as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council. In expressing his gratitude, Barrister Bello humbly credited former President Muhammadu Buhari, for bestowing upon him the esteemed National Award.
“This recognition fills my heart with profound gratitude towards the President, the nation, the Ministry of Transportation, and the maritime sector, where I had the privilege to serve as the Executive Secretary of the NSC for eight years,” Barrister Bello remarked.
Hassan Bello’s efforts in fostering unity and cooperation among stakeholders through inclusive and collaborative regulation within the maritime industry have garnered widespread acclaim. Also, Mrs. Dabney Shall-Holma, the former Director of Commercial Shipping at the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, also received the same prestigious award for her invaluable contributions to the development of the nation’s transportation sector.
Mrs. Shall-Holma spearheaded a significant project that involved the production of navigational charts for the lower River Niger, covering a vast area of 1,719.8 kilometers and a total distance of 593.9 kilometers from Jamata to the Atlantic Ocean. Her dedication and achievements in this endeavor have been duly recognized and acknowledged through the National Honours Award.
