In a harrowing incident, a fire broke out at Mandilas Mall, situated on Broad Street, Lagos Island, triggering an immediate and coordinated emergency response from various agencies. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) received distress calls at 13:34 hrs, activating emergency plans and prompting swift actions from response teams.
The fourth floor of the 14-storey building was ablaze upon the arrival of the response teams, as investigations into the immediate cause of the fire remain ongoing. Restricted access to the primary source of the inferno has presented challenges for the teams.
Despite the intensity of the fire, some residents managed to salvage portions of their properties, and fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported at the scene. However, three adult male residents, caught amidst salvaging their belongings, were temporarily trapped but successfully rescued by the LASEMA Response Team, escaping unharmed.
As efforts to contain and control the fire continue, a collaborative response has been mounted, involving LASEMA Response Team, LRU Paramedics, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Department, LASAMBUS, LASTMA Officials, and the Nigeria Police Force.
Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, has assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
