Fidelity Bank MD Cleared of Involvement In Woobs Fraud Case

Contrary to reports making rounds in some online media platforms, the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, has been cleared of any involvement in the alleged fraud case linked to Woobs Resources.

A report published by Sahara Reporters on June 25 had suggested that Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe was named in a legal case involving fraudulent activities on the Woobs Resources account domiciled with the bank. However, findings have revealed that this claim is false and misleading.

A charge sheet dated May 12, 2025, reviewed by this reporter, lists the actual defendants in the suit as Victor Ukutt, Esq, Fidelity Bank Plc, Whoba Ugwunna Ogo, and Safiya Whoba. Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe’s name does not appear among the accused.

Further clarifying the matter, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice issued a press statement on June 9, 2025, confirming that Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe was not involved in the transactions under investigation. According to the release, her name was officially struck off the charge, as she was neither the account officer nor the Managing Director at the time the account implicated in the alleged fraud was opened.

The development has prompted calls for more responsible reporting and adherence to factual accuracy in media publications, especially when reputations and careers are at stake.
