Fidelity Bank Leads Industry With ISSB-Compliant Sustainability Report

Fidelity Bank Plc has solidified its position as a leader in sustainability within the Nigerian banking sector by becoming the first bank to publish its 2023 ISSB-Compliant Sustainability and Climate Report. Released on June 30, 2024, the report is now available on the bank’s website and provides a comprehensive overview of its sustainability practices, including governance, strategy, risk management, human capital, and community efforts.

The 2023 report highlights Fidelity Bank’s commitment to integrating sustainability and climate-related goals into its core business strategy. “2023 marked a pivotal point in our sustainability journey. We became a signatory of the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP),” said Mr. Mustapha Chike-Obi, Chairman of the Board of Directors. He emphasized the importance of innovation and transparency in building trust among stakeholders.

Prepared in compliance with IFRS S1 and S2 requirements, the report underscores the bank’s achievements and future aspirations. Mr. Kevin Ugwuoke, Executive Director and Chief Risk Officer, noted, “Our 2023 Sustainability and Climate Report details our commitment to continually situate ESG and climate-related risks & opportunities at the core of our business operations. Recently, Fidelity Bank was recognized among the top Nigerian banks in ESG performance by the Independent Project Monitoring Company (IPMC) Limited. This recognition adds to the bank’s accolades, which include the Export Finance Bank of the Year at the 2023 BusinessDay Banks and Other Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards, and various international awards for excellence in SME banking and payment solutions.
