In a remarkable show of corporate social responsibility, over 1,500 residents of Osun State, including women, children, widows, and the elderly, received much-needed food assistance through Fidelity Bank’s Food Bank Initiative. The event, held at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Osogbo, aimed to alleviate hunger and provide support to vulnerable members of the community.
The initiative, which is part of Fidelity Bank’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility, saw the distribution of food packs to individuals and families in need. Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head of Brand and Communication at Fidelity Bank Plc, highlighted the importance of such outreach programs. “Food security is a pressing challenge, and as a socially responsible organization, we are committed to tackling this issue. We collaborate with various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to identify communities in dire need and provide much-needed food support,” Nwagboh stated.
He further emphasized the bank’s dedication to continuing these efforts, noting that the Food Bank Initiative is a monthly program conducted across various regions in Nigeria. “Today, we brought over 1,500 packs of food items to be distributed to the people, and we plan to continue to do more in communities across the country to help those in need,” Nwagboh added.
Reverend Father Michael Domingo of St. Benedict Catholic Church praised Fidelity Bank for its initiative, describing it as both surprising and commendable. “It is surprising and commendable that a bank in Nigeria is giving back to the community. We are aware that banks are known for taking, but Fidelity Bank is giving back to the people,” he said.
The host priest, Reverend Father Joseph Komolafe, also lauded the initiative, urging others to follow Fidelity Bank’s example. “You don’t have to wait until you have plenty before you give out. Share what you have, no matter how little, for the progress and development of society,” he encouraged.
Fidelity Bank, recognized as one of Nigeria’s leading banks, continues to strengthen its commitment to social responsibility through initiatives like the Food Bank, which has had a significant impact on the lives of many in underserved communities.
