Fidelity Bank Donates Maternity Kits To Boost Maternal Health In Lagos

Fidelity Bank Plc, a leading financial institution, has demonstrated its commitment to improving maternal health by donating maternity kits to 30 pregnant women at the Mushin Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Lagos.

The donation, carried out through the bank’s Fidelity Helping Hands Program (FHHP), is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at empowering staff to contribute to community development. Staff across the bank identify impactful projects in their localities, raise funds, and receive matching contributions from the bank’s management to implement these initiatives.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications Division at Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, emphasized the importance of the project. “This initiative was born out of the need to support pregnant women by providing them with essential materials for a safe delivery. Maternal mortality is a pressing issue in Nigeria, with the country accounting for 28.5% of global maternal deaths, according to a 2023 UN report. Fidelity Bank is committed to improving the welfare of communities like Mushin by supporting efforts to address this challenge,” he stated.

The Medical and Health Officer for Mushin Local Government Area, Dr. Kayode Odufuwa, lauded Fidelity Bank’s intervention. “This gesture will significantly reduce maternal mortality and encourage more women from underprivileged backgrounds to register for antenatal care. On behalf of the Mushin LGA Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Bamgboye, we express our gratitude to Fidelity Bank and hope for further collaborations to enhance healthcare services in the area,” he said.

Similarly, the Apex Nurse and Deputy Director of Nursing Services in Mushin LGA, Mrs. Bolanle Odunlami, praised the bank for its generosity. “This donation is a much-needed relief for many mothers who cannot afford delivery kits. Fidelity Bank has truly shown empathy and concern for the wellbeing of our patients,” she remarked.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mary Olusanya, expressed her appreciation, saying, “I am grateful to Fidelity Bank for this support. Many pregnant women cannot afford these essential kits, and this donation ensures safer deliveries and better healthcare.”

Fidelity Bank Plc, which serves over 8.3 million customers across Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and digital platforms, continues to make strides in community impact and financial services. Recognized as one of Nigeria’s top banks, it has won multiple awards, including the 2023 Export Finance Bank of the Year by BusinessDay and the Best SME Bank in Nigeria by Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2023.

Through initiatives like the FHHP, Fidelity Bank remains a beacon of hope for communities in need, reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility and public welfare.
