In anticipation of the bustling Christmas and New Year Celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command has launched a comprehensive strategy to ensure a safer motoring environment. Deploying a formidable force of 3700 personnel, including Regular and Special Marshals, backed by 42 Patrol Vehicles, 3 Tow Trucks, 11 Power bikes, and 3 Ambulances across the state, the initiative aims at achieving zero Road Traffic Crashes and fatalities during this festive season.
Dubbed “Operation Zero Tolerance,” an integral part of the annual Ember Months Safety Campaign nationwide, this year’s campaign carries the theme “Speed Thrills but Kills, Drive Responsibly and Avoid Overloading.” This directive is accompanied by an intensive campaign involving public enlightenment, traffic control, rescue operations, and enforcement measures.
Commander Babatunde Farinloye emphasized the commitment of FRSC Lagos to an all-hands-on-deck approach, ensuring a seamless operation round the clock to curtail Road Traffic Crashes. Collaboration with agencies like Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) fortifies their resolve for a safe and crash-free celebration.
In a statement to newsmen, Commander Farinloye urged road users to utilize the toll-free emergency number 122 in case of any unforeseen circumstances during their journeys. He stressed the importance of cooperation with FRSC and allied agencies, advocating for safe practices before, during, and after travel. Farinloye reiterated the need to avoid overloading, speeding, using phones while driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
As the festive season draws near, the FRSC wishes everyone a safe and Merry Christmas, coupled with hopes for a prosperous New Year.
