The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), FCT Chapter, commemorated International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, with a special event honoring the achievements and contributions of women in society. The gathering, held at the POWA Secretariat in Jabi, brought together Police officers’ wives, senior female Police officers, and students from various POWA schools across the FCT.
The event was chaired by the FCT POWA Chairperson, Mrs. Disu Mutiat Olufunmilola, who was represented by Mrs. Veronica Iwodi, wife of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, FCT Police Command.
In a speech read on her behalf, Mrs. Disu encouraged women, particularly those in security and law enforcement, to continue breaking barriers and excelling despite the challenges they face.
“To every woman breaking barriers, juggling responsibilities, and standing strong in the face of adversity—your strength is the foundation upon which families, communities, and nations are built. In demanding professions like security and law enforcement, where the stakes are high and sacrifices are great, your resilience and dedication inspire generations,” she stated.
Senior female Police officers, including ACP Ifeyinwa Ndibe and CSP Esther Ogunfowora, delivered insightful speeches on balancing law enforcement careers with family and personal responsibilities. They emphasized the importance of resilience, self-care, and support systems in maintaining a work-life balance. Their discussions highlighted the critical role women play in shaping the future of policing while also supporting the professional and personal growth of their spouses.
The celebration concluded with a musical performance by the Police Live Band, which entertained attendees and reinforced the spirit of unity and empowerment.
SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, signed the press release, affirming the association’s commitment to celebrating and uplifting women in all spheres of life.
