The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully dismantled a kidnap syndicate operating within the Durumi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp, rescuing a foreign national and arresting five suspects.
The victim, Sambo Umar Labibo, a citizen of Burkina Faso, was abducted on March 14, 2025. His captors forced him to call a close associate, demanding a ₦15 million ransom for his release.
Acting on intelligence received on March 18 at about 3:05 PM, operatives from the Durumi Divisional Headquarters swiftly mobilized and executed a well-planned operation. Working closely with the victim’s associate, the police set a trap for the suspects at a designated ransom collection point, where they were intercepted and apprehended.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
1. Ibrahim Umar
2. Hamza Buba
3. Muktar Mohammed
4. Masaud Abdullahi
5. Moses Idoko – described as the gang’s medical director, responsible for providing medical care to both suspects and victims.
Following their arrest, the suspects led the police to their hideout within the Durumi IDP Camp, where the victim was found and rescued unharmed. Efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.
This operation highlights the FCT Police Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all residents, including foreign nationals.
