FCT Police Recover Body of Suspected Vandal Electrocuted While Attempting AEDC Theft

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered the lifeless body of an unidentified suspected vandal who was electrocuted while attempting to steal electricity infrastructure belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred on January 30, 2025, near step-down electricity lines at Yakubu Gowon Crescent in the Asokoro district of Abuja. Police operatives responded to a distress call made to the FCT Command’s Control Room and discovered the body at the scene, alongside tools allegedly used for the vandalization.

Reports indicate that the deceased was not acting alone, as his accomplice fled the scene before the police arrived. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect.

The FCT Police Command has reiterated its zero tolerance for acts of vandalism, stressing that such crimes are grave offenses with serious consequences. “Vandalization of public infrastructure will not be tolerated within the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement read.

The Command also assured residents of its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and warned individuals against engaging in such criminal activities. Security operatives have been placed on high alert to curb vandalism and protect public infrastructure.
