FCT Police Nab Six ‘One Chance’ Syndicates, Seize 296 Vehicles In Major Crackdown

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has intensified its operations to combat criminal activities, leading to the arrest of six notorious ‘One Chance’ groups and the impounding of 296 vehicles for various violations.

In a press briefing on December 3, 2024, CP Disu praised the collaboration and support from FCT residents, attributing recent successes to their vigilance and cooperation. He also outlined the Command’s proactive strategies, including the establishment of a Special Tactical Team, which has significantly enhanced security across the territory.

Among the notable breakthroughs was the arrest of six ‘One Chance’ syndicates responsible for terrorizing residents. On November 23, operatives from the State Intelligence Department apprehended a suspect, Ibrahim Kabiru, along Ahmadu Bello Way during a routine patrol. Recovered items included a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, a knife, scissors, mobile phones, and stolen luggage. Kabiru is currently in custody and faces prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.

Earlier, on November 6, three suspects impersonating law enforcement officers to abduct unsuspecting victims were arrested. Following further investigations, additional suspects—Hyelda Aliyu (29), Mathias Nwosu (40), and Blessing Ukachukwu (49)—were apprehended. Items recovered from them included a silver Toyota Corolla (registration number KUJ 27 TY) and a blue Mazda 323 (registration number RBC 711 XL). The suspects have reportedly confessed to their crimes and are awaiting trial.

In another case, the Command successfully rescued a heavily pregnant woman, Doris Gabriel, who had been abducted by a ‘One Chance’ gang disguised as commercial vehicle operators. Operatives from the Karimo Division arrested one of the suspects, Ikechukwu Ngerem, while efforts to apprehend his accomplices are ongoing.

Additionally, the Command impounded 296 vehicles for various traffic offenses, such as unauthorized use of tinted glasses, driving with a single plate number, and using concealed or defaced number plates. CP Disu explained that these measures aim to enforce traffic regulations and prevent vehicles from being used for criminal activities.

Emphasizing the importance of community participation, CP Disu urged residents to report suspicious activities and make use of the Command’s communication channels to share information.

“These achievements underscore our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property in the FCT. Let us continue working together to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all residents,” CP Disu stated.

The recent operations by the FCT Police Command highlight the effectiveness of their strategies and the crucial role of community support in enhancing security and curbing crime in the capital city.
