The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, has called on residents of the nation’s capital to obey traffic regulations as part of efforts to ensure public safety and maintain order.
In a statement issued from the Command Headquarters, CP Adewale emphasized that adherence to traffic rules is a key civic responsibility that not only protects lives but also enhances national development.
“Respecting traffic laws is a fundamental civic duty,” the CP said. “It ensures individual safety, reduces congestion, and supports the smooth functioning of our roads, particularly in high-traffic zones.”
He warned against street trading and other illegal activities on roadways, noting that such actions obstruct traffic, endanger lives, and increase the risk of accidents. The Commissioner urged residents to respect road signs, parking regulations, and traffic officers, stressing that the police remain partners in progress, not adversaries.
“Obedience to traffic regulations and cooperation with officers are crucial to creating a safer and more organized FCT,” he said. “Anyone found obstructing or assaulting officers on duty will face the full weight of the law.”
CP Adewale reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and encouraged the public to report traffic violations, suspicious activities, and emergencies through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 08033111911, or 07057321547.
The statement was signed by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Abuja.
