The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its efforts to tackle the increasing incidents of ‘one chance’ robberies and car thefts across Abuja. In a press release issued on November 26, 2024, the Command announced the deployment of additional personnel and equipment for patrols, stop-and-search operations, and heightened surveillance throughout the territory.
Key aspects of the operation include impounding vehicles with no registration numbers, single plates, or defaced plates. The Command also emphasized strict enforcement of regulations regarding covered number plates and tinted glasses.
“These measures, while potentially causing some inconvenience, are necessary to ensure the safety of all FCT residents and deter criminal activities targeting motorists and passengers,” said SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer.
Since the implementation of these measures, the Command has recovered stolen vehicles and arrested suspects linked to ‘one chance’ robberies. Residents are urged to comply with vehicle regulations to avoid complications and to cooperate with law enforcement during these operations.
The Command also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities and assured residents of its unwavering commitment to maintaining security in the FCT. For inquiries or emergencies, residents can contact the Command through its hotlines at 08032003913 or 08028940883. Reports of police misconduct can be directed to the Public Complaint Bureau at 09022222352 or the Complaint Response Unit at 08107314192.
“The safety of all residents remains our top priority,” SP Adeh affirmed, encouraging the public to support the police’s efforts in creating a secure environment.
