FCT Police Bust Car Theft Syndicate, Recover Stolen Vehicles, Arrest Eight

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has made significant progress in its efforts to combat car theft, with the recovery of three stolen vehicles and the arrest of eight suspects, including a husband-and-wife duo allegedly involved in a vehicle theft syndicate.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest followed a report made on April 19, 2025, regarding the theft of a gold Toyota Corolla (registration number: ABC 570 FJ) from the Federal Secretariat. Acting swiftly, operatives of the Scorpion Squad apprehended one Yusuf Yunusa, whose arrest led to the capture of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, on April 25 in Kwali Area Council.

Blessing confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from the Jumia online marketplace, which her husband allegedly used to steal vehicles, while she played a distracting role during the heists.

In a separate development, police operatives on April 28 responded to a report from a car buyer in Life Camp over a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (registration number: AAA 07 KA). Investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Lekki, Lagos. Five suspects—Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen—were arrested and confessed to stealing the car from their employer.

Also, the police responded to a complaint from Mr. Chinwenze Chinaza, who reported that his driver, George Idung, had absconded with his unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure. Based on credible intelligence, operatives from the Mabushi Division tracked the suspect to his village in Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State, where he was arrested while attempting to sell the stolen vehicle. The vehicle has been successfully recovered.

All eight suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, advised residents to install tracking devices in their vehicles, avoid parking in isolated areas, and verify vehicle ownership before making purchases.
