Family members of Obinna Obi, the President General of Umuaku Isuochi, have raised an alarm over his alleged abduction by a military team. Obi was reportedly taken by a group of soldiers led by a Major to an undisclosed location.
According to his brother, who requested anonymity for security reasons, “My brother, Obinna Obi, an architect and the President General of our town’s department union, was taken by the army. They tied him up and drove away in a truck around 4 p.m. yesterday. We have no idea where he is, and his wife, children, and our aged mother are in severe distress.”
Obi was reportedly picked up at the Umuaku Market Square, in front of a friend’s supermarket. He had traveled to the village for routine visits and meetings related to his role as President General. Eyewitnesses claim the military personnel fired shots into the air during the incident.
Responding to the allegations, Army spokesman Major General Onyema Nwachukwu stated, “Frank Obinna was arrested yesterday by troops during a raid operation in conjunction with other security agencies and Vigilantes at Umuakwu in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State. He is allegedly linked to coordination of IPOB/ESN nefarious activities and camps in the Umunneochi general area and is currently in custody for further investigations.”
The family has sent a Save-Our-Soul (SOS) message to the military high command, seeking urgent information on Obi’s whereabouts and expressing deep concern over his safety.
