    In a resounding address at an interactive session held in Lagos with industry leaders, Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), echoed the paramount importance of quality service provision within the telecommunications sector. Emphasizing an unwavering commitment to upholding standards, Maida stressed the necessity for industry-wide collaboration to actualize this imperative goal.

    Speaking as his confirmation as the substantive CEO of the Commission was underway, Maida underscored the high expectations of telecom consumers, likening telecom services to utilities like water and electricity, demanding consistent functionality. “We need to really come together in the industry and deliver value to the customer,” he asserted.

    Maida also highlighted the pivotal role of compliance to industry regulations, signaling a heightened focus on ensuring adherence and standards. “Compliance is a key area of focus for me. We owe it to ourselves to set the benchmark,” he remarked, emphasizing the need to raise the industry’s standards.

    Addressing the critical issue of broadband, Maida acknowledged the urgency, emphasizing the need for increased investment and a reimagining of strategies, particularly focusing on state-level initiatives.

    The CEO underscored the importance of aligning industry actions with national telecom development, calling upon industry CEOs to not just represent their shareholders but also to serve the nation. Acknowledging this consultative approach, industry leaders expressed their support, with ATCON President Tony Emoekpere and ALTON Chairman Gbenga Adebayo commending Maida’s proactive stance and commitment to engaging industry stakeholders.

    Maida’s vision to drive collaboration, compliance, and service enhancement underscores a promising trajectory for Nigeria’s telecom landscape under his leadership.
