The Department of State Services (DSS) has discovered individuals and groups who are planning to launch smear campaigns against both the DSS and the government regarding the suspension and investigation of Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

The groups intend to gather in various locations in Abuja and Lagos next week, holding placards that tarnish the reputation of the DSS and the government while demanding the immediate release of Emefiele.

According to a statement put out by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, the DSS is fully aware of this cheap propaganda, which aims to undermine and distract the organization from carrying out its assigned responsibilities with professionalism.

The Service said it has observed misleading commentaries, speculative narratives, storylines, and videos being circulated on social media by uninformed individuals, critics, and those driven by desperation.

“We aware of attempts to infiltrate our ranks in order to exploit disloyal staff for subversive purposes against our leadership,’ the statement partly read.

While these efforts are seen as deliberate attempts to divert attention, DSS warns the conspirators to immediately abandon their plans noting that the key instigators are already being closely monitored and will be apprehended if necessary.

The statement further noted, “It is important to emphasize that the DSS has granted access to Mr. Emefiele’s family, medical professionals, and relevant individuals since the day he was taken into custody, even prior to the court order requiring such access. The DSS strictly adheres to Standard Operating Procedures for handling and investigating suspects.

“The organization conducts its activities transparently, professionally, and in compliance with democratic governance, while respecting the rule of law.

“To clarify any doubts, the DSS assures everyone of its professionalism in dealing with the current matter(s) within its jurisdiction. However, the organization will not allow itself to be distracted or intimidated.”
