Ekwunife Reassures Commitment Towards Youth And Women Development


“Facilitates Leadership And Entrepreneurship Seminar For Women And Youths As Programme Enters Day Two”

In accordance with her commitment to transforming lives and empowering the youths and women of her constituency, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, has facilitated training on entrepreneurship development for youths in Anambra state as well as a leadership seminar for women. The activities which were part of the ongoing empowerment programme tailored towards building a better tomorrow and attainment of personal development, civic engagement and nation building were held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the popular Senator Uche Ekwunife Centre, Awka, Anambra state.

In her opening remarks, Ekwunife who was represented at the programme by the former Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr Rose Nwankwo and her legislative aide, Hon Ifeyinwa Chinwuko described the initiative as one aimed at harnessing the great potential in youths and women of the state, adding that entrepreneurship development is needed to close the gap of unemployment in the country.

According to the statement, the Senator maintained that women and youths should be encouraged to acquire skills needed in sustaining the economy, stressing that capacity building is very important because it fosters a sense of ownership and empowerment so that the participants would gain greater control over their own future. She however, reassured of her commitment towards attracting more empowerment programmes especially for youths and women.

“Women and youths are major stakeholders in any society. In order to increase the level of women participation in politics and by extension, leadership, there is great need for empowerment and sensitization of women”, noted the influential lawmaker.

Delivering his presentation, Engr. Mike Amonye (MNSE), noted that youths are valuable assets and critical stakeholders in nation building, adding that entrepreneurship development would help reduce unemployment and improve the standard of living of the people.

Appreciating the ranking Senator, a participant at the leadership seminar for women, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwokoye described Senator Ekwunife as a human capital developer, noting that the training presented a great opportunity for herself and others to build their confidence and improve their capacity to lead.

Similarly, Chidimma Nsiegbunam described the seminar as wonderful, stressing that the idea behind the programme was extraordinary.

Meanwhile, Joseph Christian who was a participant in the entrepreneurship development training for youths commended Ekwunife for always attracting the dividends of democracy to the people of the state and also attracting impactful empowerment programmes for youths. He noted that ab initio he never had doubts about the genuinity of the training because he believes that Ekwunife, who is the facilitator is known for excellence. “I have enriched myself with knowledge on how to improve and run my business”, a visibly excited Joseph added.

The first of its kind empowerment training programme is expected to last until the 28th of October. The programme is targeted at exposing participants to various skills which include, Snailery and Fishery Production, Footwear manufacturing; Mechanized animal husbandry; Modern masonry, carpentry and painting; Raw materials development amongst others.
