In a bold move to enhance security during the Easter celebrations and beyond, heads of security agencies in Anambra State have launched a coordinated operation aimed at eradicating kidnapping and other violent crimes. The operation, code-named “Operations Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes”, was unveiled following a strategic meeting held on April 11 at the Office of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, in Awka.
The high-level meeting brought together commanders and representatives from the Nigerian Army (302 Artillery Regiment), Nigerian Navy (Naval Outpost), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Customs Service, and the Anambra State Vigilante Service.
The newly launched initiative is designed to prevent and respond proactively to all forms of violent crime in the state, with a primary focus on kidnapping. It comes at a critical time when the state sees increased movement and gatherings due to the Easter festivities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation will emphasize community engagement and intelligence gathering, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the public. “This initiative is community-based and community-driven, reflecting our commitment to proactive policing strategies tailored to tackle Anambra’s unique security challenges,” Ikenga stated.
Commissioner Orutugu reaffirmed that the unified efforts of all security stakeholders aim to ensure that residents and visitors experience a peaceful and secure environment during the Easter season and in the days that follow.
The command called on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility.
