DSS Issues Plea For Calm, Calls For Non-Violence In Upcoming Re-run, Bye-Elections

The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a press release urging citizens, political parties, and stakeholders to maintain decorum during the re-run and bye-elections scheduled for February 3, 2024, across affected states. Emphasizing the importance of adherence to electoral laws, the DSS calls on contending parties to avoid actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

Beyond the electoral processes, the DSS calls for patriotism and loyalty to the Nigerian nation. It encourages public figures, social critics, and media outlets to prioritize national peace over personal or group interests. The release emphasizes the need for responsible discourse and discourages the spread of divisive narratives that could undermine national order.

The DSS appeals to the Media, Civil Society, and Community-Based Organizations to avoid activities that could contribute to unrest. Recognizing the value of a stable country for pursuing legitimate businesses and ambitions, the DSS warns against subversive endeavors and assures that it will enforce the law without hesitation, regardless of the status of the individuals involved.

In fulfilling its mandate, the DSS commits to collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other security and law enforcement agencies, and all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and trouble-free election. Proactive measures will be continually implemented to achieve the desired stability in the country.
