Dr. Frederick Mordi, the celebrated author of the newly released book “The Talent Coach”, recently had an inspiring encounter with Ivie Urieto, a 9-year-old chess prodigy from Abuja, Nigeria, who is leveraging her skills in the game to drive social change.

“The Talent Coach”, a 208-page novel published by New Africa Book Publishers (NABP), delves into the nuanced process of talent development, challenging the idea that talent is purely innate. Mordi’s work emphasizes the significant roles that both nature and nurture play in shaping one’s abilities. The book, which blends self-help with fiction, introduces readers to concepts like “Locational Leverage,” “Icarus Paradox,” and “Adversity Quotient,” making it essential reading for anyone interested in unlocking their potential.

Mordi’s meeting with Ivie Urieto, a young chess sensation from Kubwa, Abuja, was a powerful moment that underscored the book’s themes. Urieto, who began playing chess at the age of four under the guidance of her father, Clement Urieto, has already won 11 medals in local and online competitions. Her aspirations extend beyond personal achievement, as she aims to become a grandmaster by age 15 and is using chess as a tool to inspire and uplift other children.

Urieto serves as an ambassador for “The Gift of Chess”, a U.S.-based foundation, through which she visits schools and orphanages, distributing chess boards and teaching children how to play. Her mission is to provide a positive outlet for young people, steering them away from negative influences and showing them the potential of their own talents.

Dr. Mordi was profoundly moved by Urieto’s dedication and vision. He noted that her work aligns perfectly with the principles outlined in “The Talent Coach”, particularly the idea that talent, when nurtured with purpose, can have a transformative impact on society.

Urieto’s efforts are helping to revitalize interest in chess across Nigeria, demonstrating how the game can be a powerful tool for social change.

“The Talent Coach” is now available in bookstores nationwide and online. For more information or to schedule an interview with Dr. Frederick Mordi, please contact him at frederickmordi@gmail.com or visit www.frederickmordi.com.
