Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the South-South geopolitical zone, Daniel Sokari Pedro psc (+) mni, paid a working visit to the Delta State Police Command on April 22, 2024. The visit aimed to boost the morale of officers, enhance police-community relations, and assure residents of the Force’s commitment to ensuring a safer Delta State.
DIG Pedro, the most senior police officer in the South-South region and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology, was accompanied by AIG Zone 5, Arungwa Nwazue Udo psc (+) mni. They began their tour with a courtesy call on Governor Sheriff F. Oborevwori at the Government House in Asaba. DIG Pedro expressed gratitude for the state government’s support and solicited further assistance from both the government and the residents of Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori praised the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for recognizing deserving officers with awards. The governor noted that this recognition signifies the police force’s effectiveness in maintaining safety and security in the state. He also promised to procure new vehicles for the police, to be commissioned by the Inspector General.
Following the courtesy call, DIG Pedro met with stakeholders and officers of the Delta State Command. He emphasized the importance of community partnership in policing, stating that policing has become a shared responsibility. In his address to the officers, DIG Pedro warned against extortion and abuse of human rights, urging them to police with a human face and respect fundamental human rights. He also stressed the importance of adhering to the rules governing the use of firearms as outlined in Force Order 237 and Force Order 88.
DIG Pedro commended the efforts of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, in combating crime. He noted that the achievements under CP Olufemi’s leadership, even in a short period, have been commendable.
