A real estate developer, Chief Chinedu Emmanuel, has raised alarm over alleged threats to his life and property, calling on the Nigeria Police to intervene and prevent a breakdown of law and order in a disputed land area in Anambra State.
Emmanuel, who owns the Majestic Luxury Estate located at Ifite, Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area, has petitioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 13 Ukpo, Anambra State, seeking urgent protection.
The petition, which was filed through his legal counsel, Jude Onyejegbu of J.A. Onyejegbu Chambers & Co, urged the police to deploy officers to the estate to safeguard both his life and structures within the property. He also requested the arrest and prosecution of alleged trespassers if investigations establish a prima facie case against them.
According to the petition, Emmanuel has been in possession of the land since 2018, after purchasing 250 plots from accredited representatives of the Nteje community. The estate was expanded in 2021 with an additional 500 plots, also acquired from the same community representatives.
However, trouble reportedly began in January 2025 when certain individuals, identified as Mr. Stanley Uzo, Mr. Obinna Henry Emenogu, and other members of the Igwebuike Estate Ifite Nteje, began asserting ownership over the Majestic Luxury Estate.
“Our client, since the year 2018, has been in possession of the property known as Majestic Luxury Estate, Ifite Nteje… In 2021, it was expanded to include an additional 500 plots,” the lawyer stated.
The legal counsel claimed that efforts by the Anambra State House of Assembly to mediate between the parties failed. He added that the suspects, allegedly armed with a resolution from the House of Assembly recognizing them as the rightful owners, are now threatening to take over the estate by force.
“It is our instruction that following a failed attempt by the Anambra State House of Assembly to reconcile the parties, the suspects have finalized plans to invade the estate with armed thugs,” the petition reads.
Chief Emmanuel has now called on the police to act swiftly to prevent violence, safeguard lives, and ensure justice in the unfolding land dispute.
