The Delta State Police Command has recorded a major victory in its ongoing fight against crime with the recovery of 968 rounds of ammunition, five locally fabricated guns, and a substantial amount of ransom money. These operations, conducted across various parts of the state, have further bolstered the Command’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of residents. Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and making Delta State safe for all.
On September 5, 2024, a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by the anti-crime patrol team in Aboh town led to the arrest of one suspect, Anthony Godday. During the operation, a motorcycle carrying two passengers was intercepted, and a bag containing 930 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition was discovered. While one suspect managed to escape, Godday was immediately apprehended. The police are continuing investigations to trace and arrest the fleeing accomplice.
In another breakthrough, on September 12, 2024, at about 1:30 AM, a crack squad attached to the Ughelli Area Command, acting on a tip-off, raided a brothel in Ewu town, Ughelli South Local Government Area. Five suspects were arrested, including Dominic Uweru (alias Ovwolo), Isaac Oghenerukevwe (alias Plug), Oviri Godstime, Junior Sunday, and Efedeki Adjovo. In the operation, the police recovered one single-barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size guns, ₦450,000 in ransom money, as well as Moniepoint and OPAY POS machines. The suspects confessed to a series of armed robbery and kidnapping operations in Ughelli and surrounding areas. Notably, they admitted to kidnapping a 70-year-old woman on September 8, 2024, and collecting a ransom of ₦7.9 million before releasing her on September 10. All suspects are currently in custody, with investigations continuing.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives in Agbarho arrested Ovoke Enaike, a suspected armed robber, on September 14, 2024. A search of his motorcycle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated gun, a live cartridge, and 38 rounds of AK-47 ammunition hidden under the seat. Enaike, an indigene of Ovierie Ethiope East Local Government Area, remains in custody, with efforts underway to apprehend other members of his gang. The case is being transferred to the Delta State Police Headquarters in Asaba for further investigation.
On September 9, 2024, the police successfully apprehended two suspected car snatchers along the Asaba-Benin Expressway. Acting on intelligence, officers arrested Olisa Emenoha and Iteke Uchenna Wilson, both from Anambra State, as they were attempting to dispose of two stolen vehicles: a Toyota Corolla with registration number AWK 597 ND and a Toyota Camry with registration number GDD 149 MA. Initial investigations revealed that the vehicles were part of a series of car thefts, with one of the vehicles reportedly stolen at gunpoint in Akwa Ibom State. The suspects are now in police custody, and further investigations are being conducted.
