Following the discovery of a locally built cut-to-size gun and four live cartridges with them, police officers assigned to the Delta State Police Command’s Quick Response Squad (QRS) have detained three suspected cultists.
Chukwuma Owoh (age 26), Ediri Ogendengbe (age 32), and Alfred Kess were the three suspects (38).
When the operatives were performing a stop-and-search near Pessu corner in Warri on Friday, August 5, 2022, at around 1:45pm, they halted a tricycle with three people inside and made the arrest.
The gun and the live cartridges were found on the suspects during the tricycle’s search, according to DSP Bright Edafe, a Spokesperson for Delta Command, who confirmed the arrest of the accused. This discovery led to their detention.
“Chukwuma Owoh, one of the suspects, admitted that he purchased the firearm from Haruna of the Hausa Market in Warri and that he was traveling to Pessu in pursuit of the Aiye Confraternity cult members who attacked his younger sister.
“Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects are now being held in jail, according to the PPRO.
Ari Muhammed Ali, the State’s Commissioner of Police, praised the arrest and asked the officers and members of the Command to keep up the pace.
In addition, he warned them about acting impolitely toward bystanders while on duty since he would not accept it.
