Delta State Police Nab Armed Robber, Drug Traffickers During Stop & Search Operation


In a successful operation focused on crime prevention and proactive policing, the Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and apprehended three individuals in possession of illicit drugs. The operation, carried out during routine stop and search activities, resulted in the recovery of a locally made gun, live cartridges, and a substantial quantity of narcotics.

Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, assures the residents of Delta State of a commitment to maintaining a peaceful, safe, and secure environment. He issued a stern warning against criminal activities, lawlessness, or any behavior contravening the laws of the land, emphasizing that such actions will be dealt with accordingly.

On February 5, 2024, around 0800 hours, the Delta State Police, particularly the Dragon Patrol, conducted a stop and search operation along Kwale – Ogwashi-Uku Expressway. The officers intercepted a commercial Sienna Bus en route from Ughelli to Asaba. During the search, a locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges were discovered concealed inside a polythene bag containing smoked fish. The suspect, Fedelis Akpos, 23 years old, a resident of Ewhu Community Ughelli South L.G.A, was attempting to use the smoked fish as a decoy. The suspect is in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident on February 7, 2024, around 1100 hours, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducted a stop and search at Head-Bridge Asaba. They flagged down a Toyota Hiace bus for a routine check and discovered three cartons containing one hundred bottles of CSC Codeine and four hundred sachets of 250mg of Tramadol, along with other suspected hard drugs. Lucky Emmanuel (40 years), Enunwuune Snu (46 years), and Jacob Efedeye (32 years) are in custody, and investigations are underway.

CP Abaniwonda Olufemi expressed appreciation for the officers’ diligence in carrying out their duties and successfully apprehending these suspects. He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a safer environment for all Deltans, residents, and non-residents.
