Delta State Police Gear Up For Nationwide Protest Scheduled For August

As the nation prepares for a planned protest from 1st to 10th August 2024, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has issued directives in line with instructions from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. Organizers are required to provide detailed plans to their local police commands for security purposes before the protest begins.

The organizers must submit details about the proposed protest and assembling points, as well as the routes. They should also provide the expected duration of the protest, along with the names and contact details of protest leaders and organizers. Additionally, they must outline measures to prevent the hijacking of the protest by criminal elements.

CP Olufemi Abaniwonda emphasized the importance of cooperation from both organizers and participants to ensure a peaceful protest. He assured residents of Delta State that the police command will deploy all necessary resources to protect them during the protest and maintain law and order.

Protesters are urged to uphold the sanctity of public gatherings and lawful assemblies, avoiding actions that could lead to unrest. The CP has ordered extensive deployment of police forces across the state, including undercover operatives from the State Intelligence Department, to monitor activities and prevent any potential disruptions.

SP Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, reiterated the commitment to safeguarding residents and ensuring the peaceful conduct of the protest. The command remains vigilant in its efforts to prevent any breakdown of law and order during this period.
