In a significant transition, CP Abaniwanda Surajudeen Olufemi has assumed office as the 22nd Commissioner of Police for Delta State Police Command. The seasoned law enforcement officer officially took over from AIG Wale Abass, who has been transferred to the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Born on February 22, 1966, in Epe LGA of Lagos State, CP Olufemi boasts an impressive academic background, holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History (1987) and a Master of Arts in Economics History (1990) from the University of Lagos. His journey in the Nigeria Police Force began on March 18, 1992, as a member of Cadet ASP Course 17, after completing training at the elite Police Academy in Kaduna.
Throughout his distinguished career, CP Olufemi has served in various capacities, demonstrating his commitment to law enforcement. His roles include 2 I/C Squadron Commander at Police Mobile Force (21PMF) in Jos, Squadron Commander at MOPOL 8 Jos, and Divisional Police Officer at multiple divisions in Abuja. Notably, he has represented the force internationally, participating in Peace Keeping Missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2000 and serving as the Training Adviser at the United Nations’ Integrated Office in Sierra Leone in 2008.
Promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police in January 2024, CP Olufemi’s extensive training includes courses in Traffic Management, Combat Operation, APC Conversion, Tactical Leadership and Command, and Strategic Leadership and Command.
In his inaugural press address, CP Abaniwanda Surajudeen Olufemi pledged to enhance existing security mechanisms in Delta State, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation with law enforcement. He urged the youth to resist involvement in criminal activities.
Outgoing Commissioner of Police, AIG Wale Abass, expressed gratitude to the State Government and the people of Delta for their support during his tenure, urging continued cooperation with his successor.
DSP Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, assured the public that CP Olufemi’s leadership would make the state uncomfortable for criminals.
