Delta State Police Command Reports Significant Achievements Under CP Abaniwonda Olufemi’s Leadership

In a press briefing held today, Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, provided an update on the achievements of the Delta State Police Command from February 1st, 2024, to the present date. CP Olufemi, who assumed office as the 22nd Commissioner of Police in the state, outlined the various efforts made to address the peculiar security challenges within the region.

Addressing the media, CP Olufemi highlighted the importance of teamwork, strategic partnerships, and cooperation with stakeholders in achieving result-oriented policing. He assured the public that under his watch, policing in Delta State would be responsible, in accordance with the law and respecting the fundamental human rights of citizens.

The Commissioner then went on to report notable breakthroughs made by the Command within a two-week period:

1. Arrest of a Woman in Possession of Live Cartridges: A 54-year-old woman, Efe David, was apprehended on 17/2/2024 with 175 live cartridges during a routine patrol along Asaba/Ibusa road. The suspect is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

2. Arrest of Suspected Notorious Armed Robbers: Okechukwu Gabriel, aged 26, was arrested on 17/02/2024 for robbing a tricycle rider. The victim identified the suspect, and investigations are in progress.

3. Arrest of a Suspect in Possession of Locally Fabricated Beretta Pistol: Chionyenedue Macdoff was arrested on 13/2/2024 with a locally fabricated Beretta Pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition. The suspect confessed to purchasing the firearm from someone in Kaduna.

4. Arrest of Suspected Cultist, Recovery of Locally Made Cut-Size Gun: Eze Emeruwa, aged 28, was arrested on 12/2/2024 for assaulting his girlfriend. During the search, a locally made cut-to-size double barrel pistol and seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered. The suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.

5. Arrest of a Suspected Armed Robber, Recovery of Fabricated Revolver Pistol: Isaac Victor, aged 31, was arrested on 15/2/2024 with a fabricated revolver pistol in Dublina Road, GRA, Asaba. Investigations are ongoing.

6. Arrest of Suspected Cultist/Armed Robbers: On 18/2/2024, seven suspects were arrested for attacking and dispossessing shop owners in Bomadi. Items recovered include four cutlasses, two daggers, and one axe.

7. Arrest of a Suspected Cultist, Recovery of Single Barrel Cut-Size Gun: Okolgbo Prince Onyeka, aged 25, was arrested on 09/02/2024 with a single barrel cut-to-size gun and a dagger.

8. Arrest of a Suspected Illicit Drug Dealer, Recovery of Codeine Bottles: Ugornna Nnanye, aged 32, was arrested on 16/2/2024 with 284 bottles of substance suspected to be codeine.

9. Arrest of a Suspected Armed Robber, Recovery of Locally Made Gun: Fedelis Akpos, aged 23, was arrested on 05/02/2024 with a locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges.

10. Arrest of Suspected Drug Dealers, Recovery of Illicit Drugs: Lucky Emmanuel, Enunwuune Snu, and Jacob Efedeye were arrested on 7/2/2024 with substances suspected to be CSC Codeine and Tramadol.

CP Olufemi concluded by directing all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to sustain raids on black spots, conduct visibility patrols, and stop and search operations to prevent crime in their areas. He emphasized the commitment of the Delta State Police Command to ensuring the safety of residents and urged continuous support and cooperation from the public.

Additionally, CP Olufemi announced the establishment of a Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Command headquarters, aligning with the Inspector General of Police’s mission for a transparent policing system in Nigeria.
