The Delta State Police Command has reaffirmed the ban on the use, sale, and display of fireworks, including pyrotechnics, firecrackers, “knock-out,” and “banger,” during the festive period.
The announcement, made by Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, is part of efforts to ensure a safe and peaceful Yuletide for all residents.
Highlighting the risks associated with fireworks, CP Abaniwonda noted that such items could be exploited by criminal elements to create panic or launch unlawful activities. To prevent such occurrences, the command will strictly enforce the ban across the state.
Parents and guardians have been urged to caution their children and wards against the use of fireworks, while retailers have been warned to refrain from selling or displaying the prohibited items. The police emphasized that anyone caught violating the ban would face arrest and prosecution.
To ensure compliance, the Commissioner has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to monitor their jurisdictions and take decisive action against violators.
Residents are encouraged to report any incidents involving the use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station or via the following control room numbers:
