Since the appointment of Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda as the 22nd Commissioner of Police in Delta State, the command has recorded impressive successes in its battle against crime and criminality, with numerous arrests and significant recoveries made across various criminal activities.
Among the most notable achievements are the recovery of 32 AK-47/AK-49 rifles, 27 Beretta pistols, 72 single-barrel and cut-to-size guns, 19 pump-action guns, and a total of 5,042 rounds of ammunition and cartridges. These recoveries are part of the ongoing efforts by the Delta State Police Command to combat armed violence and reduce the proliferation of illegal firearms in the state.
The command has also made substantial progress in apprehending suspected criminals. A total of 678 individuals have been arrested, including 131 suspected armed robbers, 88 suspected kidnappers, 76 suspected murderers, 329 suspected cultists, and 54 individuals accused of rape and defilement. The arrests reflect the intensified efforts by the police to address a range of criminal activities threatening the safety and security of residents in the state.
In addition to the arrests, the command has successfully rescued 48 kidnapped victims and recovered 27 stolen vehicles, further underscoring its commitment to safeguarding the public and ensuring justice for victims of crime.
CP Abaniwonda’s leadership has been credited with these successes, with the Delta State Police Command receiving commendations for its proactive approach to tackling crime and its focus on improving the security landscape of the state. The command’s efforts are seen as crucial in restoring public confidence and maintaining law and order in Delta State.
