In a significant breakthrough, the Delta State Police Command has apprehended three suspects involved in the manufacturing and distribution of firearms to criminal elements, including armed robbers and kidnappers.
The operation, spearheaded by the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, was the result of an intensive intelligence-led investigation following the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 revolver rifle on 8th June 2024. The special task force, led by ASP Julius Robinson, executed the arrests on 16th July 2024, between 1300hrs and 1935hrs.
The suspects, identified as Tega Dierunaba (44) from Ororokpe Community in Okpe LGA, Delta State; Chibiuke Anuforo Cosmas (42) from Orlu Town in Nkwerre LGA, Imo State; and Sunday Moses Pam (36) from Von Community in Jos South LGA, Plateau State, were apprehended in Warri, Delta State. Dierunaba resides in the Enehren area of Warri Town, Cosmas in Musheshe Cold-Room Industrial Area, Enehren Road, Warri, and Pam on Oka Closed Street, Enehren, Warri.
According to police reports, the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime, corroborating earlier confessions by Goodluck Sakutu (38) from Ekpan Community, Uvwie LGA, Delta State, who was previously arrested and found in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating crime. He urged residents to trust the policing process and provide credible, timely information about suspicious activities in their areas, assuring that their identities will be kept confidential.
“The fight against crime can be tackled at any stage – before, during, or after the act. We encourage all residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. We assure the public of our commitment to justice and the confidentiality of their information,” CP Abaniwonda stated.
