Delta State Police Arrest Suspected Criminals, Recover Weapons, Illicit Drugs


The Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime with the recent arrests of several suspects involved in armed robbery, cult activities, and drug trafficking.

On June 14, 2024, at approximately 2:30 PM, operatives deployed to Ughelli, led by ASP Julius Robinson, acted on credible intelligence regarding arms peddling and an impending cult clash in the Oteri community, Ughelli North LGA. They arrested Felix Egbe, a 37-year-old notorious cultist and member of the Eiye confraternity, at a hotel in Ughelli. Egbe, a former Youth Secretary of the Oteri community, was found with a Beretta pistol after a search of his residence. The investigation is ongoing.

On June 18, 2024, at around 1:20 AM, the Aladja police out-station received a distress call about an armed robbery in Aladja community. The district officer and community members responded promptly, leading to the arrest of suspects Lucky Victor and Godbless Oghenevegba, both 20 years old, at Igwere quarters, Aladja. A locally made gun, cartridges, a knife, and a suspected stolen phone were recovered from the suspects. They are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.

On June 13, 2024, at about 2:00 PM, operatives from the CP Monitoring unit, acting on credible information, raided a distribution outlet for illicit drugs in Asaba. Emeka Ozumu, 49, and Patrick Otukam, 30, were arrested. The operatives recovered thirteen bottles of codeine, twenty-three sachets of tramadol, and other hard drugs. An investigation is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, urges youths to shun crime and avoid substance abuse, highlighting the dangers to their health and potential to drive criminal behavior. He emphasized that crack squads have been deployed to target drug peddling hideouts, and offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
