Delta State Police Arrest Cultists, Armed Robbers, Recover Firearms In Major Crime Crackdown

In a series of successful operations, Delta State Police have arrested several suspects linked to armed robbery and cult activities, recovering multiple firearms in the process. Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi commended the officers involved and urged youths to avoid criminal activities.

On May 24, 2024, at approximately 4:35 PM, a special squad led by ASP Julius Robinson, acting on intelligence, arrested Emmanuel John Aisewowhion, alias “Small Juju,” a 34-year-old from Ewohimi community in Esan-South East LGA of Edo State, residing in Uwagba Community, Okpe LGA, Delta State. A Beretta pistol was recovered from his residence. Aisewowhion, identified as a member of the Eiye confraternity, reportedly obtained the firearm from a known gunrunner, Goodluck Sakutu, who is currently in custody. Efforts to apprehend other gang members are ongoing.

Following multiple reports of cultism and gun-running in the Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, and Oghara areas, police operatives, under the directive of CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Oghara town. On May 24, 2024, they arrested Phillips Omomedia, a 37-year-old from Onogo-Vor community in Ethiope West LGA, Delta State. Omomedia, a suspected member of the Aro-Bagar confraternity involved in numerous cult-related killings, was found in possession of an automatic double-barrel gun and fifteen live cartridges. Investigations are ongoing.

On May 26, 2024, at about 5:00 PM, a combined patrol team of local police and federal hunters conducted a stop-and-search operation along Oputu Road, Orhowurun community in Udu LGA. They flagged down a motorcyclist who refused to stop, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, one suspect, Christopher Semede, age 33, was apprehended, and a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel pistol was recovered. Efforts to capture the fleeing accomplice continue.

CP Abaniwonda Olufemi praised the dedication of the officers involved in these operations and called on other officers to follow their example. He emphasized the collective responsibility to eliminate crime in Delta State to ensure the safety of its residents. The Commissioner also urged the youth to reject all forms of crime and cultism, highlighting the adverse effects on state security. He assured the public that the police command remains committed to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting criminals to make Delta State a safer place.
