Delta State Police Arrest Armed Robbers, Car Snatchers, Recover Weapons


The Delta State Police Command has successfully apprehended several suspected armed robbers, car snatchers, and burglary suspects in a series of coordinated operations, leading to the recovery of multiple weapons and stolen items.

On June 5, 2024, at approximately 17:45hrs, a special squad deployed to Ughelli by Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, arrested three suspected armed robbers. The squad, led by ASP Julius Robinson, acted on credible intelligence to storm Sapele Town, resulting in the apprehension of Blessing Atima (23), the gang leader from Jesse Community in Ethiope West LGA; Destiny Okpako (19) from Oviri-Okpe Community in Okpe LGA; and Wisdom Akpohiro (20) from Jesse Community. All suspects are residents of Sapele Town.

Recovered from the suspects were one Beretta pistol, a locally made cut-to-size gun, three cutlasses, phones, and ATM cards belonging to their victims. Several victims have identified the suspects and their belongings. The suspects, who admitted to participating in six armed robbery operations in Sapele, are currently in custody as investigations continue.

On May 3, 2024, at about 08:30hrs, RRS operatives, acting on a tip-off, arrested Usman Bello (40) in an uncompleted building along Issele-Asagba Expressway. Bello, who pretended to be mentally unstable, was found with a locally made fabricated Beretta pistol. He is currently in custody as the investigation progresses.

On June 4, 2024, at around 13:00hrs, undercover operatives in Asaba arrested two suspects involved in breaking into and looting shops. Ameachi Michael (42) of Wuje Street, Port Harcourt, and Ogochukwu Ogbode (38) of Aronomen, Enugu, were apprehended along DLA Road, Asaba. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects transported stolen goods to Port Harcourt for sale. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the receivers of these stolen items.

Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi urged the public to report any distress situations to the command through dedicated control room numbers (08036684974) or by visiting the nearest police station.
