On Tuesday, the Delta State Police Command personnel prevented a criminal attack on the Hausa Market in Asaba, state’s capital, which may have resulted in a significant security issue for the state.

According to our Reporter, this was made possible with the help of a few patriotic citizens who notified the authorities when they spotted criminals using a tricycle in the neighborhood at a suspicious time, and the operatives responded quickly.

As a result, members of Command’s CP-Decoy Squad were sent to the area where the criminals had abandoned a defaced tricycle and fled after spotting the police.

A fake AK-47 weapon, twelve live 9mm rounds, and 23 live cartridges were discovered after a thorough examination of the trike. These items were all disguised in a black polythene bag and stashed behind the seat of the back passenger.

In a statement, State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed this development, stated that efforts were being stepped up in coordination with neighbourhood watch groups to apprehend the evading criminals.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, PSC+, appreciates the efforts of the residents in the State who consistently provide the Command with helpful information that aids in combating crime and urges them to continue working with the Command, noting that crime has no jurisdiction because criminals lack empathy for other people and as such should not be allowed to carry out their nefarious deeds unchecked.

“The identity of anyone who provides information to the Police will be treated with the highest confidentiality, he further assures everyone” Edafe said.
