The Delta State Police Command has neutralized three suspected kidnappers involved in a failed attempt to abduct the wife of a Delta State House of Assembly member. The operation, which took place on October 3, 2024, followed the tragic killing of two policemen and a driver during the initial kidnapping attempt on September 2, 2024, at Okoloba Junction, Jakpa Road, Uvwie Local Government Area.
According to a press release from the Delta State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered a rapid and strategic deployment of officers around Warri and its environs following the failed abduction. Police operatives from the Ebrumede Division, led by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Iwok Ndifereke, created an artificial traffic hold-up at the DSC roundabout, successfully locating the vehicle described in the attack with a matching registration number.
When the suspects noticed the traffic and saw the police presence, they opened fire. The police team responded professionally, managing the situation despite the busy area. The suspects abandoned their bullet-ridden vehicle and fled with injuries. Police recovered three AK-47 rifles and the operational vehicle, registration number WWR-436-GZ.
Determined to capture the fleeing criminals, CP Abaniwonda instructed the DPO to intensify efforts to track down the suspects. On October 3, 2024, CSP Iwok Ndifereke led a police team to the suspects’ hideout in Agbarho. A fierce gun battle ensued, and the police successfully overpowered the criminals, with three suspects sustaining fatal gunshot injuries. Another AK-47 rifle was recovered at the scene. The suspects were taken to the hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
The police are continuing their manhunt for the remaining gang members who escaped during the raid.
CP Olufemi Abaniwonda commended the bravery and professionalism of the DPO and his team during the operation and urged other officers to emulate their courage in the fight against crime.
