Delta Police Command’s Seizes Arsenal of Illegal Weapons, Ammunition, Restores Safety

In a significant victory against crime and criminality, the Delta State Police Command has made a major breakthrough, recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition.

The operation, led by Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass psc, was carried out in response to numerous complaints from residents of Ekpan and surrounding areas about the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers.

Following the deployment of CSP Aliyu Shaba to Ekpan Police Station with a mandate to restore safety and security to the area, a joint team consisting of officers from the Ekpan division and military personnel from the 3rd Battalion Nigerian Army Ekpan conducted a sting operation on July 3, 2023.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the hideout of suspected criminals and the location of their weapons, the team raided an uncompleted building at Agadaga Avenue, off Jakpa Road, Ekpan.

During the operation, a thorough search of the premises uncovered a substantial cache of firearms and ammunition. The recovered items included one AK-47 rifle loaded with five magazines containing a total of 161 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one assault rifle with two magazines loaded with 59 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, two English pump-action guns, 110 rounds of live cartridges, one double-barrel gun, one single-barrel gun, one toy gun, a collection of cutlasses, and a bundle of charms wrapped in a cap. Authorities are currently making frantic efforts to apprehend the members of the criminal syndicate.

Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the public and urged further assistance from residents, particularly Deltans, in the fight against crime. He called on individuals to provide any useful information that could aid the police in their efforts.
